Having had a near-death experience, and because I believe we are, in essence, eternal, I don’t really fear death. What I do fear is the death of people I love, because I don’t know if I will be able to deal with the loss. But in any case, we do have to learn to cross bridges when we get to them, and your post is a beautiful reminder of how we can shift our anxiety about things that are completely out of our control. Thank you.

Wow I am really grateful for you leaving such a heartfelt comment. I’m glad that you feel that way about the article! I’m very curious what a near-death experience can do to you and how it can shift your perspective on life.

In my case, I just kept revisiting this void made of literally nothing but peace. And I would keep coming back into my body to feel an excruciating amount of pain, even though I was maxed out on morphine, so I don’t fear dying anymore, because I’ve seen, and felt, and experienced what’s on the other side.

And we retain conscious awareness, because I kept coming back into my body the second I remembered that if I died, my children would be left alone in this world. That’s essentially the reason why I am still here.

Very interesting, for me that is completely unimaginable, but for such an experience you describe it very vividly.

If on the other side was death, then maybe your consciousness was shifting between mediums. That could possibly mean that consciousness is fundamental or eternal, which would be so so cool! only thing is we don’t know where our consciousness goes? Do we completely lose our individuality and become part of some whole? Like an ocean drop reuniting with the sea? And do we even want that, don’t we want to remain ourselves as an individual.

This is what I believe (after many many years of pondering about this): our light body is made of and individual soul, an individual human consciousness (while incarnated as a human), and higher self. I believe all three stay “together” as we reincarnate, but all three are also connected to the universal consciousness that animates all life.

And needless to say, my entire perspective on life shifted completely. I had long held the belief that reincarnation is the only true form of justice in this world, so that part I got. But there was still always this tiny “doubt”… I stopped doubting.
