Well I have sum this up many of us are looking for a place to land and we only have a gallon of fuel left in the jet engine.... What happens we will crash land somewhere by just falling out of the sky.
Greatly written article! There is undeniably a society where performing is a common method of seeking validation, so i always like to think, using the anecdote from your article: Don’t wear the jacket because you want an identity, wear the jacket because it IS your identity. (Your writing style and structuring of your essays are most definitely improving, keep rocking!^^)
Thank you so much for the kind comment Ultron! And I totally agree with you anecdote. And thank you for noting that you see improvement, it means a lot to me
“obsessed with being perceived in a certain way instead of being a certain way”
Lot of interesting points. This one stood out to me. I’ve personally found there to be a reverse experience. It’s like “frustrated with being perceived a certain way that conflicts with my being the way I really am.” And perhaps the outspoken external persona is a desperate plea to the world, saying, this is me, this is me. Like, why can’t you see who I am? I’m not the thing you expect me to be, and I never wanted to be!
Thank you so much for the kind and interesting comment. I agree with you, the persona you put up is a kind of desperate plea, ‘please see me for someone useful and unique’, it’s real, but in the long run it does more harm than good
“People wanting to be perceived in a certain way instead of being a certain way.”
That tension felt very real to me. The strongest part of the piece is where identity stops being performance and becomes a consequence of actually living what calls you.
Thank you for your in depth response. I agree that on the other side you have people (most of them) who show themselves as little as possible in order not to be judged, something which can be more sad actually. Exactly that was what I was trying to convey ‘an externalization of what already exists within you’, which is the most rewarding too. I also completely agree with you on the fact that it can be healthy for experimentation, a big factor is also the temporality of it I believe. Again, thank you.
First off, I am happy for you that you grew out of it! I used to be the second type too hahaha, but slowly growing out of it. No problem for writing it, I kind of got flooded with a surge of ideas and wrote all of it down in immediately. I am so curious about the book you’re writing and also how so cool that you undertake such an endeavor! And I would gladly read it, as the topic is amazing(and also to support of course). It can be very real that you approach a topic from a certain angle that you forget the more holistic picture so I’m glad it was able to refresh that for you. And again thank you for the kind and personal comment

Thank you so much, that was exactly what I was trying to convey. Identity as a consequence of what you were going to do anyway
